This week’s gratitude post is about my favourite kind of fitness activity. For me it’s always been gentle exercise, I love walking, of course, and I have been doing yoga for many years.
While many of us think about walking and yoga as solely physical fitness activities, it is also important to remember the mental health and wellbeing benefits, too.
I’ve attended quite a few different yoga classes and it’s amazing how diverse each class has been. The classes at the gym are all about pushing yourself to the max. Hatha yoga is about gently easing yourself into the poses and breathing correctly. Vinyasa yoga is about flow, from one asana to the next. Yin yoga is relaxing and gentle. Ashtanga yoga is about mastery of postures in line with mastery of self.
I am grateful for all the different kinds of yoga I’ve tried in a class setting and all the teachers I’ve met. For me, though, my home practice suits me better at this time in my life.
I am also grateful to live in a place where I can walk in peace and safety while I collect my thoughts, muse about my next project, remind myself to breathe deeply or softly chant a favourite mantra.
