My favourite film of all time is Blade Runner. I have always loved futuristic, cyberpunk themed stories, especially those containing moral and ethical themes around artificial intelligence.
Is Deckard a replicant? Is he human?
Blade Runner 2049 was a great follow up, I loved it. I waited for years for its release. But for me, the original Blade Runner is still the best film.
I am ashamed to say that I still have not read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick, despite having it on my bookshelf for all these years. I am also slightly ashamed to say that I don’t usually read the book, preferring the movie version for convenience. I know I am missing out.
Blade Runner was a movie that really shaped my life, helped me define my interests and gave me a darn good story that I often ponder about whenever there are new advancements in technology. There have been so many other movies with similar themes that have been released since then, but to me they have been too shallow or unrealistic and fallen short. Blade Runner as a movie and a story is timeless.
